This Sangiovese, sourced from nearby vineyards in Padthaway, is crafted with minimal intervention. Packed with flavour, it is savoury, with bright red fruit characters. Medium-bodied, with elegant tannins. It’s drinking superbly right now, not one for the cellar! Gather some friends and get the party started.

WHAT OTHERS HAVE HAD TO SAY:

“A new twist from the good folks at Redman. A slurpy, bistro-style red of raspberry, sweet spice, dusty tannin, dried herbs and tart cherry characters, all so apt for the variety and built around easy access drinking. That being said, the distinct varietal characters offer a point of difference from regional staples, and the charm here is in spades. Roll out that pizza dough." $30, 93 points. Mike Bennie, WBM Magazine - December 2024.

"After 116 years in the business of timeless and classic Coonawarra wines, here comes the new kid on the block for Redman. A new look and feel bottling, showcasing sangiovese. Here you'll discover an incense of rosella, rose petals and cherry liquor. Bleeding pomegranate seeds, quandong and sumac spice. Crafty in its style, the naturally bright and perky acidity of sangiovese here makes for a thirst quenching drop, without the green savoury edges and astringency of some styles. This is popping with energy and is highly smashable. Careful now, as it beckons you in." Shanteh Wale, 92 points, Halliday Wine Companion, December 2024

"I haven't tried any Redman gear for a few years and was suprised with this tasty Limestone Coast red. Great to taste a slurpable mid weight red. I slightly chilled it in the fridge as pretty hot. Went great with beef ragu. A nice addition to the range." Aussie.wine.tasting on Instagram

"Redman wines is a classic Coonawarra producer known for quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Here they have sourced fruit from the wider Limestone Coast area to produce their first ever Sangiovese.

A medium ruby red colour. On the nose are aromas of tart cherries, raspberries, tobacco, and earthy undertones. Medium-bodied with a juicy texture. Classically high in acidity, and nicely balanced with firm tannins. The wine has nice flow and energy. Notes of sour cherries, strawberries, pomegranate, mixed Italian herbs, and turned earth. The wine finishes with a nice hit of tannin and acidity.  Nice wine. A good Australian Sangiovese. It feels riper than a Tuscan Sangiovese, but that is terroir.

"A departure from their staple, bolder reds and a nod towards the lighter, shoulder season varieties that thrive across many of South Australia’s diverse wine regions, this is their 2023 Sangiovese, using fruit from Padthaway at the northern entrance to the Limestone Coast GI.

The nose is perfumed and bright, with lifted red berries, red cherries, tobacco and earthy spices. Youthful and fresh, it’s medium bodied with a spritely line of acidity that gives the wine definite focus. The palate has notes of slightly sour, dusty red cherries, ripe red plum, leather, spices and subtle notes of tomato paste. There’s a little bit of cola lurking in the background too. It’s dry. Tannin are fine, though persistent. The finish is lengthy, slightly sour, but buoyed by that wonderful acid line.

This is an enjoyable drop, showcasing a variety I didn’t think I’d see from Redman Wines but a welcome addition to their reliable lineup. The change in labelling is pretty eye catching too. I just wish I had a pizza to pair this with." Shirazzamataz - Via Instagram, November 2024
