The Redman Family

Dan is the fourth-generation winemaker at Redman Wines. Being born into a family wine business – quite literally during his dad’s first vintage – and growing up in Coonawarra, Dan has known wine his whole life. Dan studied winemaking at Charles Sturt University, then honed his craft at Tahbilk, Charles Melton, and wineries in Sonoma in the United States before joining the family business. In 2000, Dan started working at Rouge Homme Winery, the predecessor to Redman Wines established by his great grandfather Bill and grandfather Owen.

Dan is the fourth-generation winemaker at Redman Wines. Being born into a family wine business – quite literally during his dad’s first vintage – and growing up in Coonawarra, Dan has known wine his whole life. Dan left his winemaking studies at Charles Sturt University a few subjects shy of completing his degree in order to start his career.

In 2020, Dan and his brother Mike bought into the family business, ensuring the continuity of Redman Wines for years to come. Dan says: “I’ve never known anything else other than being in a family wine business. I’m proud to be part of the long history of winemaking at Redman. Buying into the business ensures that the brand retains the family name and vision well into the future. Both Mike and I are incredibly proud of our family’s role in Coonawarra, and there’s a different responsibility with ownership to ensure that Redman Wines continues well into the future.”

Dan is married to Meg Redman, and together they have two children, Jock and Arabella. Both Dan and Meg are involved in the local community. Dan has been actively involved in the South Australian country fire service for over twenty years, and the pair raise money for local charities close to their hearts, such as the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.
